Assistant Branch Manager

Summary:

The assistant branch manager supports the branch manager by overseeing the efficient operation of the branch to ensure all operational functions are completely and properly performed by branch staff including planning, assigning, and directing work, appraising staff performance, rewarding and disciplining employees, addressing complaints, and resolving problems. In addition, the assistant branch manager will be available to assist the tellers and universal bankers during peak periods.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following.

  • Exercise executive and administrative control over the day to day functions of the branch, including implementation of all bank policies and branch objectives.
  • Utilize leadership skills to implement and promote sales culture and accountability by setting high standards of sales and customer service.
  • Plan, direct, and coordinate the daily activities of all employees of the branch. Schedule tellers and bankers for adequate coverage at all times.
  • Proactively establish and maintain relationships with individuals, business customers and community members/groups. Network within the community to find and attract new business. Provide assistance with problems these customers may encounter.
  • Keep staff informed of pertinent changes in operational policy and procedures.
  • Respond to branch inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, internal departments or community members.
  • Prepare teller/banker performance appraisals and disciplinary notices as required.
  • Assist in the verification of daily maintenance and new account review to ensure accuracy.
  • When schedule requires or during peak periods, perform universal banker duties including opening and closing of accounts, answer customer questions and explain available services for personal and business accounts both in person and via telephone.
  • Investigate, correct and follow up on discovered errors upon customer request.
  • Ensure the branch and vaults are opened and closed on a timely basis. Enforce dual control procedures at all times. Audit teller drawers regularly. Maintain proper teller and vault cash levels, including ordering coin and currency. Oversee the flow of cash and financial instruments.
  • Assist manager in all areas of the branch as required. Represent the Bank in the community both to promote additional business and fulfill CRA requirements. Assume authority and responsibility for necessary management decisions.
  • Ensure excellent customer service skills are practiced by all the teller and banker staff members.
  • Maintain harmony, foster respect among employees and resolve any internal grievances.
  • Ensure operational integrity through compliance with all policies, procedures and regulations.

Qualifications

  • 3 years of personal banking experience, plus demonstrated success as a teller. Prior managerial experience preferred.
  • Proven ability to build relationships and network within local communities to develop and attract new business.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel. Knowledge of Jack Henry SilverLake preferred.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, including proper phone etiquette.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Display a highly professional image.
  • Maintain a high level of personal integrity and confidentiality.
  • Ability to genuinely engage customers in conversation while providing excellent customer service and demonstrating a proactive approach to assisting customers.
  • Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services. This includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction.
  • Knowledge of principles and methods for showing, promoting, and selling bank products or services. This includes marketing strategy and tactics, product demonstration and sales techniques.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Supervise bank branch employees, including tellers and bankers. Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include training employees, planning, assigning, and directing work, appraising performance, rewarding and disciplining employees, addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Universal Banker

Summary:

This position's responsibilities will include meeting customer needs by interviewing potential and existing customers desiring to open accounts while providing excellent customer service. This role must also be able to service customers through performing teller activities, which include receiving and paying out money and keeping records of money and negotiable instruments involved in a bank's various transactions.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following.

  • Answer customers' questions and explain available services for personal and business accounts both in person and via telephone, while providing excellent customer service.
  • Compile information about new accounts, enter account information into computers, and file related forms or other documents.
  • Refer customers to appropriate bank personnel to meet their financial needs.
  • Interview customers to obtain information needed for opening retail and business accounts.
  • Assist in the verification of daily maintenance and new account review to ensure accuracy.
  • Investigate, correct and follow up on discovered errors upon customers' request.
  • Cash checks and pay out money after verifying that signatures are correct, written and numerical amounts agree, and accounts have sufficient funds.
  • Examine checks for endorsements and verify information such as dates, bank names, identification of the persons receiving payments and the legality of the documents.
  • Receive checks and cash for deposit, verify amounts, check accuracy of deposit slips, enter transactions into computers and issue computer-generated receipts.
  • Balance currency, coin, and checks in cash drawers.
  • Receive and count daily inventories of cash.
  • Prepare and verify cashier's checks.
  • Ensure operational integrity through compliance with all policies, procedures and regulations.
  • Maintain customer lobby by periodically stocking waters and teas, straightening-up lounge area and making coffee.

  • Strong oral and written communication skills, including proper phone etiquette.
  • Strong problem solving skills and the ability to use sound judgment when issues arise.
  • Strong attention to detail.

  • Maintain a high level of personal integrity and confidentiality.
  • Ability to proactively assist customers and build relationships.
  • Ability to genuinely engage customers in conversation while providing excellent customer service.
