Are You Prepared For When Disaster Strikes?

Unfortunately, our news has been filled with stories of disasters lately. First we saw the devastating earthquake and tsunami in Japan, and the nuclear crisis that ensued. Recently, we’ve seen severe weather across the United States producing massive flooding and destructive tornadoes. These events have left hundreds of thousands of people displaced, many having lost their homes and personal belongings. As you reach out and try to help those in need during these difficult times, you should also ask yourself if you and your family are prepared should a disaster strike.
In conjunction with your spring cleaning this year, it’s a perfect time to develop a disaster plan of your own. Our May electronic newsletter has an article that includes tips to get started. We also recommend organizing your paperwork and placing important documents and belongings into a safety deposit box. If space is a concern, a great option is creating an emergency document archive on a flash drive and placing the flash drive in your safety deposit box. The archive should include scanned copies of items such as your birth certificate, social security card, driver’s license, insurance policies, insurance card, vehicle owner’s certificates, wills and trust documents, homeowner’s real estate documents, etc.

Evergreen Bank Group is a proud co-sponsor of the Oak Brook Park District’s inaugural Pink 5K being held on Saturday, May 7. This is a fantastic event also sponsored by Susan G. Komen and Adventist Hinsdale Hospital; $5 of every registration will be donated to Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure to help in the fight against breast cancer.
The event will start at 8:00 a.m. and take place on the Oak Brook Park District’s Central Grounds. Evergreen Bank Group will be represented by a team of walkers and runners. Culver-Stockton College Visit
May 2011
On May 12, 2011, Evergreen Bank Group will host students from Culver-Stockton College for the second year in a row as part of the EXP@CSC program. This innovative program organizes offsite field trips that supplement the coursework and allows the students to learn first-hand about how companies operate. The visit will include a tour of Evergreen Bank Group’s headquarters location in Oak Brook, IL and a full day of presentations from the executive team.
Teach Children to Save Program

During the month of May, our Evergreen Park branch staff plans to present a Teach Children to Save program to the students of the Most Holy Redeemer School in Evergreen Park, IL. Classrooms ranging from Kindergarten through 5th grade will be taught about the concept of money and the importance of saving at a young age.
Evergreen Bank Group’s efforts are part of the American Bankers Association's Teach Children to Save national campaign. Designed to help raise awareness about the important role that banks and bankers play in helping young people develop lifelong savings habits, the program has reached 4 million young people with the help of some 97,000 banker volunteers.
Parents are encouraged to join in the efforts to promote the importance of financial literacy at a young age. A great way to help your children understand about the concept of money is to start them off with their own Kids Statement Savings account .
